Cloister Merels is a two-player strategy game (nine men's morris / merels / Mühle). It is built to work entirely offline, on your device. This page explains, in full, what the app does and does not do with your data.
Cloister Merels does not collect any data. It has no account system, no analytics, no advertising, no trackers and no server of its own. Everything the app remembers — your games, your settings, your photographs — stays on your device and is never sent anywhere.
The app keeps the following information locally on your device only, using Apple's on-device SwiftData storage:
| Data | Purpose | Leaves your device? |
|---|---|---|
| Game in progress, move history, last 20 finished games | So you can resume a game and review or replay past games | No |
| Win / draw / loss tallies per difficulty level | Your record screen | No |
| Lesson progress and daily-problem streak | So lessons remember where you left off | No |
| App settings (sound, music, haptics, appearance, flying rule, reminder time) | To remember your preferences | No |
| Found Boards: a photo you choose to add, plus a name, place and note you type | Your own personal journal of merels boards you have spotted in stone | No |
If you choose to add an entry to your Found Boards journal, you may take a photograph with the camera or choose an existing photo from your library. The app only accesses the camera or photo library when you deliberately tap "Take photo" or "Choose photo" — it never activates either on its own. The resulting image is stored only in the app's own local data, on your device.
You may optionally turn on a single local evening reminder in Settings. If you do, the app asks the operating system for notification permission at that moment and schedules the reminder entirely on your device, using iOS's local notification system. No reminder content is generated by, or sent through, any server.
Cloister Merels contains no third-party advertising SDKs, no analytics SDKs, and no tracking of any kind, across apps or websites. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and nothing resembling a loyalty, rewards, or currency system. The app's Apple Privacy Nutrition Label reflects this: no data is collected.
Cloister Merels does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children, because it does not collect information at all.
If this policy ever changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds an optional online feature — the update will be described here and in the app's "What's New" notes before it takes effect.
Questions about this policy can be sent to [email protected], or through the support page.
